Deep Roots in Belleville Basketball

The Factory has a strong connection to the Belleville basketball community. Both of Factory founder Coach Rich Sherwood's children played varsity basketball at Belleville High School, and many Belleville varsity athletes have trained at The Factory and competed with Factory Basketball over the years.

The Factory's Connection to Belleville Basketball

The Factory's relationship with the Belleville basketball community extends beyond the athletes who train in our gym. Both children of Factory founder Coach Rich Sherwood played varsity basketball at Belleville High School, creating a personal connection between our organization and the community.

Over the years, many Belleville varsity basketball athletes have trained at The Factory and played for Factory Basketball. Our training programs give local athletes the opportunity to develop individual skills alongside their school and travel basketball experience.

That connection is also reflected in our professional training staff. Lead Trainer Coach Kate Sherwood was the captain of Belleville High School's varsity basketball team. She scored 1,489 career points and held the school's all-time scoring record across both boys' and girls' basketball from 2018 until the record was broken in 2025.

After Belleville, Kate continued her basketball career at Wayne State University and went on to coach at the NCAA Division I level. She now brings that playing and coaching experience to her role as Lead Trainer at The Factory.

Coach Andrew Leamy also played high school basketball at Belleville, graduating in 2019. He continued his playing career at Henry Ford Community College and then the University of Michigan–Dearborn before joining The Factory's training staff.

Our approach to player development emphasizes proper instruction, purposeful repetitions and consistent development. Athletes learn the details of shooting, ball handling, finishing, footwork and overall basketball IQ, then work toward applying those skills in game situations.

From Belleville High School to The Factory's Training Staff

Two members of The Factory's professional training staff have direct ties to Belleville High School basketball. Their experiences as Belleville athletes, followed by college basketball careers, help shape the instruction they provide to the next generation of players.

Coach Kate Sherwood, The Factory's Lead Trainer, was a Belleville varsity captain and scored 1,489 career points. She held the school's all-time scoring record across boys' and girls' basketball from 2018 until 2025. Kate went on to play at Wayne State University and later coached at the NCAA Division I level.

Coach Andrew Leamy played basketball at Belleville High School before graduating in 2019. He continued his playing career at Henry Ford Community College and the University of Michigan–Dearborn.

Today, Kate and Andrew help athletes develop within The Factory's structured training system, emphasizing instruction, repetition and progression so players understand not only how to perform a skill, but when and why to use it.
