The Factory in Westland has some of the top Basketball Trainers and Coaches in the state of Michigan, who have trained players of all ages and levels, helping them become the best player they can be. Kate Sherwood
Basketball Skills Trainer
Bio:
Coach Kate Sherwood had a successful career at Wayne State University, where she was voted to the ALL-GLIAC 2nd Team (2x) and the GLIAC All-Defensive Team. Ranked #4 in WSU's all-time Free-Throw percentage (82.5%), she was known for relentlessly attacking defenders and getting downhill. In the 2021-22 season, she was ranked #13th nationally in D2 Free-Throw percentage at 89%. The following year, she was once again ranked nationally, taking the 23rd spot at 86%. In her last year, Kate averaged 11.3 points per game, 4.7 rebounds per game, 1.1 steals per game, and led her team in minutes played.
Coach Kate is big on proper footwork, especially when finishing around the rim. She teaches athletes of all ages and skill level, teaching many of our group classes as well as offering private lessons. Her areas of expertise are ballhandling, finishing, and pivot-foot. She also leads off-hand development and 60-minute skills.

Jalen Sykes
Basketball Skills Trainer
Bio:
Coach Jalen Sykes played at Macomb Community College where they won the NJCAA championship
in 2017 and St.Clair college where he averaged 22ppg. Jalen also played professionally for the
Windsor Express (NBL) and the Lansing Pharaohs (TBL). Jalen fits perfectly at the Factory because he believes consistent execution of the fundamentals are the key to success as a basketball player. Coach Sykes works with athletes of all ages and levels giving Private Lessons, teaching Off-Hand Development, and helping out with Shooting Form, Ball Handling and our 60-minute skills.

Andrew Leamy
Basketball Skills Trainer
Bio:
Coach Andrew Leamy knows what it takes to be part of a winning college program. During his first 2 years at Henry Ford Community College, he played on one of the top JUCO teams in the nation, finishing 3rd in the National Tournament in both the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons. He competed against All-Conference teammates in practice everyday, gaining experience from high-level teammates and learning through hard work and discipline. After 2 seasons, Andrew transferred to the University of Michigan-Dearborn, where he was a key contributor for his team, helping them in scoring and perimeter play. He was one of the top free-throw shooters on the team, shooting 85.5% from the line.
Coach Andrew is big on the fundamentals, emphasizing discipline and doing the little things consistently. Everyone wants to learn an advanced combo move, but he strongly believes having a solid foundation in the basics gives athletes the opportunity to expand their game and really excel in their role as he did with both programs he played for. Coach Andrew works with athletes of all ages and skill level, teaching our group classes and offering private lessons. His areas of expertise include finishing school and shooting form, and he also leads our 60-minute skills class.

Amy Jackson
Basketball Skills Trainer
Bio:
Coach Amy Jackson was a high-level multi-sport athlete her first 2 years at Macomb Community College, where she holds the current program record for 3-pointers made in a season. She was named Team Captain, scoring an average of 15.0 points per game, along with over 4 rebounds per game. In her second year, she maintained her scoring and 3-point shooting presence, earning MCCAA 2nd-Team honors. In additon, not only did she get All-Conference in basketball, Amy was also named to the MCCAA All-Conference Team in Cross Country. She then transferred to Cleary University, where she continued to average double figures and become a well-known 2-sport standout with both basketball and bowling for the rest of her college career.
Coach Amy is big on proper shooting mechanics, as well as having the ability to shoot on the move. She believes great shooters not only need to shoot well in place, but they also need to know how to move well without the ball in order to get open and create their shot. Amy works with athletes of all ages and skill level. She specfically enjoys teaching our shooting form class and also leads our 60-minute skills.

Nic Sweeney
Basketball Skills Trainer
Bio:
Coach Nic Sweeney just recently finished playing 3 years of college basketball at Madona University, where he was part of the team's conference championship run his junior year. That year, the team boasted a 27-7 overall record, only losing 3 games in conference play and their final loss in the NAIA National Championship game. In his senior year, he helped the team go on a successful 10-game winning streak to secure a spot in the NAIA first-round playoffs. Durig those seasons, Nic thrived on being the best all-around player he could be, focusing on fundamentals, versatility, and hark work. Whatever the team needed, that was what he was willing to be.
Coach Nic brings the same energy he had as a college player to coaching - working with athletes of all ages and skill level. He is passionate about teaching the game the right way, specializing in good footwork, game-speed repetitions, and 3-level scoring. He teaches shooting form, finishing, and our 60-minute skills. Coach Nic's ultimate goal is to inspire players to reach their full potential and love the process of improvement on and off the court.

Shae Smith

Coach Shae Oleta Smith is the first female student assistant for the Madonna Men's Basketball Team, was the Detroit Pistons Jr. NBA Coach of the Year, is founder of Oleta One Basketball, and is an advocate for the Nike X Pistons Game Growers. Coach Shae does Private Lessons, Small Group Workouts and helps out with our 75 Min. Skills & Shooting Classes.
